Police seek help after teen intercepts 10-year-old

10:15 pm on 27 March 2012

Hamilton police are seeking help from the public after a teenager intercepted a 10-year-old boy at his school.

Detective Sergeant Robbie Herman says it appears the boy was approached by the older boy when he left his classroom at Hamilton West Primary to go to the toilet shortly before midday on Tuesday.

The teenager led the boy to nearby trees, where he produced some chain the boy thought was to be used to tie him up.

Two members of the public walking nearby spooked the teenager, who then ran off.

The boy returned to class and raised the alarm.

The teenager is described as Pakeha, about 15, with short black hair, wearing a grey shirt and black pants.

Detective Sergeant Herman asks anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of the school during the morning to contact Hamilton Police on 07 858 6200.

Alternatively information can be left anonymously on Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
