Skimming takes $1 million plus

Police say fraudsters have got away with more than a million dollars in a recent operation against ATMs across Auckland.

ANZ Bank has said fraudsters attached equipment to five machines in Auckland to read information on customers' cards - a practice known as skimming.

Acting detective senior sergeant Russ Bagley says the value of the offending is rising daily, with all the money being spent in several countries overseas.

Mr Bagley says police are working closely with the bank's internal investigators to try to track down the offenders and establish the full extent of the offending
