The man charged with kidnapping and murdering a Christchurch woman has been remanded without plea for another three weeks.

Mellory Manning was beaten and stabbed and her body was dumped in the Avon River in 2008.

Mauha Fawcett, 24, appeared in Auckland District Court last week charged with her murder.

When he appeared in Christchurch District Court on Monday morning, the judge granted a three-week remand without plea.

Several of Ms Manning's friends were in the public gallery and one taunted the accused as he stood in the dock.
