Feature film revenues up

Feature films made in New Zealand generated more than $700 million for businesses last year - 15% more than the previous year.

A screen industry survey for 2011 shows the overall gross revenue for the industry, which also includes television, commercials and other broadcast media, was almost $3 billion, an increase of 4% on 2010.

Half of all revenue came from the production and post production sector.

Some 35 feature films were completed in New Zealand in 2011.

The number of screen industry businesses fell by 339 to 2,739. However the number of businesses earning more than $1 million per year rose by 18 to 180.

Some 6600 were employed in the screen industry - 100 less than 2010.
