Man charged with murder

A man is under arrest and charged with murder following a killing in Papatoetoe early on Sunday.

John Maeva, 25, was shot three times outside his home at about 12.20am on Sunday. Two of the wounds were to his head.

Police believe it was a premeditated execution.

A man, 31, unemployed, will appear in the Manukau District Court on Tuesday morning.

Another weekend victim is still in a critical condition.

The man, 19, from Papakura, is in Middlemore Hospital with head injuries after being found on a netball court. Police have been told of a fight in the area about 2am on Sunday.

Detective Inspector Mark Gutry told Morning Report his chances of surviving are "not good at the moment".

A teenager, 15, was shot in the leg in Mangere at 9.30pm on Saturday.

Detective Inspector Gutry said the motive for this is still not clear.
