A South Auckland man has been charged with assault in relation to a weekend attack on a man at the Papakura netball courts.
Tautu Cescil, 19, of Papakura, remains in a critical condition in Middlemore Hospital with head injuries following the attack, early on Sunday.
Police say a 20-year-old man from Papakura was arrested on Tuesday night and was due to appear in the Papakura District Court on Wednesday.
They planned to make an application to oppose bail at the hearing
Police say further arrests are expected.
Man charged over drive-by shooting
In another weekend incident, a teenager, 15, was shot in the leg in Mangere at 9.30pm on Saturday.
A man, 24, has been charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after the drive-by shooting, police say.
