V8 race injunction to be filed

1:07 pm on 11 April 2012

A Hamilton family will on Wednesday go ahead with a threat to file an application for a court injunction to stop the running of the V8 Supercar street race next week.

Paul Smart, whose home is on a corner of the circuit, says non-stop noise, crowds and cars racing past their front-gate, make the three-day event a living nightmare.

Mr Smart says in previous years, the race promoter has sent his family on a paid holiday during the event, but this did not happen last year when the race was taken over by a new promoter.

Lawyer Kate Hay says Mr Smart does not want to ruin the event for the rest of Hamilton and sincerely hopes the V8 promoter will reconsider their position.

She says the district court will decide on Monday if it will grant an interim injunction stopping the race.
