Rain boosts South Island hydro lake levels

Hydro lake levels in the South Island have risen after recent rain.

Meridian Energy says three days of rain has boosted the southern hydro lakes levels enough to get through until the spring snow melt.

And Contact Energy says its storage lake, Lake Hawea, has also benefitted from the much-needed rainfall.

Power companies have been concerned about maintaining a consistent power supply, and have been managing their hydro storage carefully during a generally dry winter.
