Guilty plea in connection with Hutchings killing

A woman has pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact to the murder of South Otago teenager Michael Hutchings.

The 18-year-old's body was found in the Clutha River in January, wrapped in a mattress cover and weighed down with steel bars.

The 30-year-old woman was previously jointly accused with a 38-year-old man of murdering Mr Hutchings.

Last month the man pleaded guilty to murder, admitting he inflicted the fatal stab wounds.

The pair have been remanded in custody until 25 September, when sentencing is due. However the sentencing could be deferred by a month, as the woman disputes an aspect of the Crown's version of events.

The pair is also jointly accused of raping a 15-year-old girl, and pre-trial hearings on that matter will also take place on 25 September.
