Sports presenter Tony Veitch was hospitalised on Friday because of fears for his health and safety.
He is facing charges of assaulting his former partner and resigned from Television New Zealand and the Radio Network in July.
It is understood Mr Veitch, 34, was hospitalised on Friday after he was found in Mangawhai in Northland after a search by friends, his family and police.
He has since been released and is described as recovering.
The charges have put him under intense scrutiny and a family spokesperson, Glenda Hughes, asked on Sunday for that to ease and their right to privacy to be respected.
