The NZX 50 has slipped 9 points to close at 3516 on turnover of $80 million.
At 5.47pm, the New Zealand dollar was at 81.33 US cents, 78.75 Australian cents , 50.63 pence, 66.31 yen and 0.6186 euro. The TWI - a trade-weighted index of currencies used by key trading partners - stood at 72.58.
Falls included Fletcher Building down 14 cents to $6.14, Telecom 2.5 cents to $2.505, Chorus 4 cents to $3.37, Contact Energy 2 cents to $4.89 and Cavalier 24 cents to $1.89.
Rises included SkyCity Entertainment up 8 cents to $3.90, Sky Television 5 cents to $5.40,
Mainfreight 15 cents to $9.75, and Kathmandu 1 cent to $1.69.
