Tuhoe relationship with police non-existent

Tuhoe's chief negotiator says the tribe's relationship with the police is non-existent.

The Tuhoe settlements of Taneatua and Ruatoki were at the centre of police raids in 2007, in which 17 people were arrested in an operation mounted under the Terrorism Suppression Act.

Four defendants were ultimately tried and convicted on firearms charges.

Tuhoe elder Tamati Kruger says the raids have left lingering hurt and disruption to lives and property.

But he says it's now too late for an apology.
