A Christchurch man charged with attempted murder and unlawfully detaining two people after two stabbings during rush-hour traffic is fit to stand trial.

Nearly a month ago, the Christchurch District Court ordered psychiatric reports be done on the man, who was shot twice by police during the incident on 15 March this year.

Lawyer Allister Davis says his client, who did not appear on Thursday, is recovering from surgery in Christchurch Hospital and will be moved to Hillmorton Hospital when he is well enough.

One man suffered multiple wounds during the attack and a woman delivery driver was also injured.

The accused has name suppression and has been remanded in custody until 18 May for a post-commital conference.
