Power has been restored to about 200 residents in the New Plymouth suburbs of Hurdon and Marfell.
Their power was cut just after 5am on Friday when high winds brought trees down over power lines.
PowerCo says power was back on by 7am.
MetService says there may be severe thunderstorms on Friday morning as a cold front sweeps across central and northern New Zealand.
