Police say a five-year-old girl was killed when the small motorbike she was riding crashed, south of Nelson, on Sunday.
Police say the girl hit a farm fence on private property in the township of Tapawera about 2.30pm.
She sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.
Mr Hall says there were witnesses nearby and the incident is being investigated on behalf of the coroner.
