Pak 'N Save is no longer the cheapest supermarket in Auckland for staple grocery items, a Consumer magazine survey has found.

Pak 'N Save was fourth cheapest in the survey of 15 staple grocery items that included milk, butter, cheese and bread.

Woolworths had the lowest price - $37.33 - for the 15 items, and The Warehouse Extra the most expensive - $41.51.

Pak 'N Save came in at $40.11.

Foodstuffs, which owns Pak 'N Save, disputes the Auckland results, saying its own checks show it is also the cheapest in Auckland.

The survey did find that Pak 'N Save was the cheapest for the 15 items in Wellington and Christchurch.
