Court action over mental health name and shame website

7:43 am on 18 September 2008

A website set up to name and shame mental health workers has been forced to remove some of its content because of a legal challenge.

Auckland counsellor Steve Taylor established the site in July to identify mental health professionals whom he believes have acted with negligence or incompetence.

In its first post, the website named a hospital liaison team member based at North Shore Hospital, who Mr Taylor says dealt arrogantly with a client before wrongly discharging her.

The post has been temporarily deleted, while Mr Taylor considers a legal challenge regarding its content from Waitemata District Health Board and Crown solicitors.

The DHB says it believes the posting is defamatory, outside the bounds of fair comment and lacking in any factual basis.
