More answers wanted about shooting

The mother of a Hawke's Bay man shot to death by the police says she is not convinced by a police investigation that says the shooting was justified.

Lachan Kelly-Tumarae, 19, was killed after he pointed a gun at officers near Napier in March last year.

An officer fired 14 shots at Mr Kelly-Tumarae but an investigation has found the shooting was justified.

But Mr Kelly-Tumarae's mother, Mereheni Tumarae, says she still has unanswered questions.

She says witnesses last year said her son was unarmed, so it is hard to accept a different story now.

Ms Tumarae says she will accept the findings if they are verified by an inquest.

The case will now be referred to the Coroner and an Independent Police Conduct Authority investigation is still underway.
