The detective heading a homicide investigation into the death of a 39-year-old woman in her home in Nelson says the police are seeking her former partner.
The woman's body was discovered by a relative at her home in Salisbury Road, Richmond, at about 6.30 pm on Thursday after she had failed to turn up to work.
Detective Inspector Geoff Jago says the woman had been assaulted but he was unable to say how she received the injuries or where in the house she was found.
He says the police want to speak to anyone who has had recent contact with her.
"We've been informed by the family that the woman had recently ended a relationship and that is one area of focus for the investigation, but there are others as well."
Mr Jago says there will be a post-mortem examination after the victim's body has been removed from her home, possibly on Saturday.
