The developer of a proposed 28-storey hotel in Dunedin says the city has been in desperate need of a five star hotel for decades.
Business and tourism leaders on Friday revealed plans for the $100 million dollar on Dunedin's waterfront which, if granted resource consent, should be completed by 2015.
A representative for the developer, Steve Rodgers, says the hotel will provide accommodation for up to 430 guests and will increase Dunedin's hotel beds by more than 20%.
Dunedin chief executive Hamish Saxton says the announcement signals a confidence in Dunedin both as a business centre and a tourist destination.
