Kawarau Jet resumes operations after fatal crash

11:31 am on 29 September 2008

Jet boat company Kawarau Jet is back on the water following last week's crash, in which Chinese woman tourist was killed.

The woman died on Thursday when the boat crashed at the confluence of the Shotover and Kawarau rivers.

Her body was later found in the upturned hull of the boat.

Another 22 people in the travel group were injured.

Kawarau Jet director Andrew Brinsley says the boat drivers made an early-morning run on Sunday to get their confidence back before resuming commercial operations.

Mr Brinsley says the driver of the jetboat that crashed is taking his time before carrying passengers again, but the company has not stood him down.

Inquiries by Maritime New Zealand, the Traffic Accident Investigation Commission and police into the crash are expected to take several months.

Mr Brinsley says some changes have already been made, including updating the company's emergency plan and revising the procedure for radio calls.
