Report assesses RWC effect on Auckland economy

A report on the effect of the Rugby World Cup on Auckand's economy has shown that more than $500 million was spent in the city as a result of the tournament.

The report was commissioned by the Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development Board.

It said the Rugby World Cup resulted in $512 million net additional expenditure from 2006 to 2012, including spending on infrastructure, such as the upgrading of Eden Park.

Development board general manager Rachael Dacy says 114, thousand tourists visited Auckland - almost three times the number of visitors the board had initially forecast.

The report will be handed to the Auckland City Council on 31 May.
