Air NZ passenger numbers down

Air New Zealand is seeing a fall in patronage as demand for air travel falls and competition heats up.

The airline carried 952,000 passengers in August - a decrease of 1.8% on the same month last year.

Long haul flights were 82% full, with fewer travellers from Asia and Britain, while it saw increases in numbers flying from North America.

The number of people flying the Tasman and domestically fell, due to increase competition and weaker demand.
