Police have lodged a claim with the High Court at Hamilton to recover money from a former Hamilton secondary school principal convicted of fraud.

Martin Elliott was convicted in February on two charges of using a document for pecuniary advantage.

He was sentenced to 40 hours community service and no reparation was sought.

Now police are seeking either property or other assets belonging to Elliott, so the Crown can recover $60,000 he allegedly defrauded from Fraser High School.

Under the Criminal Proceeds Act, it is up to Elliott to prove to the court he has not benefited from the crimes he was convicted of.
