The 2011 Rugby World Cup lost less money than was expected.
The organisation responsible for arranging the tournament, Rugby New Zealand 2011, has announced a loss of $31.3 million, which is about $8 million less than was forecast.
The Government and the New Zealand Rugby Union jointly funded the tournament. About two-thirds of the tournament loss is to be covered by the Government and the remaining third by the union, capped at $10 million.
Former Rugby World Cup Minister Murray McCully says the results have been good.
