The Overseas Investment Office is allowing American film-maker James Cameron to extend his property in Wairarapa.

The director of Titanic and Avatar can now add another 26.9 hectares of land to his property on Western Lake Road, south of Featherston. The extension is made up of three properties.

In December last year, the office granted approval for Mr Cameron to buy land totalling more than 1000 hectares. Another 10 hectares was approved in February this year.

The office said on Thursday that Mr Cameron and his family will use the land to live on and for a working farm.

It says Mr Cameron plans to live in New Zealand indefinitely.
