NZ Rugby Union wants to rename national teams

The New Zealand Rugby Union is hoping to cash in on the value of the All Blacks brand by renaming two of its other national teams.

The New Zealand Maori and the national men's Sevens team would be rebranded and known as the Maori All Blacks and All Blacks Sevens in future.

There will be a change in their logos on the jersey to also incorporate the All Blacks name, Reuters reports.

NZRU chief executive Steve Tew says the change allows them to create more reasons for international companies to associate with the All Blacks and New Zealand rugby by convincing them that the brand has real global reach.

He says the NZRU needs to generate $100 million a year to sustain the game in New Zealand.
