It is nearly 30 years since a reported UFO sighting in Kaikoura.
The sighting was made out of the window of Captain Bill Startup's Safe Air plane, and filmed by a camera crew on board.
The crew of the original plane is planning to replicate the flight on its 30th anniversary on 30 December.
Documentary maker Paul Davidson says the replica flight will be made in an equivalent aircraft, as the original plane is no longer airworthy.
He says the object the team saw 30 years ago was literally an Unidentified Flying Object which remains unidentified three decades later.
