Promise of more say welcomed

Organisers of a Pacific protest march in Auckland on Saturday are welcoming a promise by the Mayor Len Brown to give Pacific communities a greater say in the city's future.

Rev. Uesifili Unasa, says the march stems from frustration by Auckland Council's Pacific advisory panel and community leaders at being left out of important council decisions.

Mr Unasa resigned as the chairman of the advisory panel on Monday in order to support the protest march, but says he will now stay on because of the mayor's support.

Mr Brown says he has agreed to do more to champion Pacific issues to the council and central Government.
