Jockeys accused of swapping urine samples

An investigation is under way into the alleged swapping of urine samples by two jockeys during a random drug test following a race at Te Rapa in Hamilton.

The men have been questioned by racecourse inspectors and a decision on whether they will face charges by racing authorities is expected soon.

It is alleged leading jockey Opie Bosson provided a sample for Bruce Herd, when Herd was selected for testing earlier this month.

Simon Cooper of New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing says Herd has been stood down from racing, subject to a judicial hearing, while Bosson can continue riding at this stage.

Herd has submitted another sample for testing.

The pair face lifetime bans and a fine of up to $25,000 if found guilty.
