Police to crush first boy racer car

7:03 pm on 20 June 2012

Police Minister Anne Tolley says the first car will be crushed on Thursday under legislation introduced more than two years ago to deter boy racers.

The Vehicle Confiscation and Seizure law strengthens the power of the courts to confiscate and destroy the cars of persistent boy racing offenders.

Under the law, those caught illegally street racing three times will have their vehicles crushed.

It was passed in Parliament under urgency in 2009 but until now has not been used.

Ms Tolley says the legislation has been a strong deterrent.
