Courts go electronic

8:24 pm on 21 June 2012

Minister for the Courts Chester Borrows says new technology being introduced next year will significantly reduce the court's reliance on paper.

Mr Borrows demonstrated the court's new computer system, eBench, to members of Parliament's Justice and Electoral Committee on Thursday.

He says the country's courts are old fashioned with a paper-based system that requires manual handling of all cases.

He says the new technology will allow Judges to manage criminal cases electronically and allow charges to be processed up to 70% faster.
