Company charged over man's violent death

The company that employed a security guard who was killed in Auckland in November has been charged by the Department of Labour.

Charanpreet Dhaliwal, 22, an Indian migrant, died of head injuries after being assaulted in November. It was his first day on the job.

The Department of Labour says CNE Security has been charged with failing to provide a safe work environment and will re-appear in the Waitakere District Court in the coming weeks.

The Council of Trade Unions says it has taken out a personal grievance claim, with the Employment Relations Authority, against the company.

Hateni Kaufusi Latu, 27, has been charged with murder.
