Police in Queenstown say a new CCTV system will help policing in the resort, which has a high rate of late-night alcohol related crime.
A dozen cameras funded by Queenstown-Lakes District Council began operating this week.
That coincides with one of Queenstown's busiest times of the year, the annual winter festival, but Senior Constable Sean Drader says the timing is a coincidence.
He says many people these days expect security footage to be available if they are the victims of crime.
