13 arrests at winter festival

11:56 am on 24 June 2012

Police in Queenstown have made 13 arrests so far for drunken and violent behaviour during the Winter Festival celebrations.

And about six people were processed for drink-driving offences.

The annual 10 day event draws up to 50,000 visitors, many of them from Australia.

About 12,000 people lined the waterfront for a fireworks display on opening night on Friday.

Festival director Simon Green says that while heavy rain postponed several events on Saturday, Sunday is crisp, clear and calm. Snow is expected to fall over the next three days.
