Airport drops international departure charge

2:02 pm on 27 June 2012

Queenstown airport has scrapped its $25 international departure fee.

Airport aeronautical general manager Simon Barr says the fee is no longer needed because of huge growth in international traffic.

Mr Barr says the airport has redistributed charges to better reflect growth in particular areas.

He says there has been less growth in domestic flights, so fees for those passengers will rise by nearly $2 next month.

Pricing will be reviewed again in three years.

The international departure fee is scrapped from Wednesday.
