NZ tipped to suffer for inferior carbon tax

5:51 am on 2 July 2012

An environmental group says New Zealand will suffer as a result of having a carbon emissions scheme inferior to Australia's.

A carbon tax for the 300 companies that produce the most greenhouse gas came into effect there on Sunday.

Sustainable Aotearoa says the Australian scheme is far more user-friendly and cost effective than New Zealand's emissions trading scheme.

Board member Wayne Cartwright says this country will suffer as a result of having an inferior system.
