Few complaints about taxi drivers

New Zealanders seem to have few complaints about taxi drivers.

The New Zealand Transport Agency canvassed 800 taxi users in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.

The survey shows New Zealanders think the overall standards of cars, cleanliness, safety and professionalism of taxis and their drivers is high.

The Taxi Federation says that's a huge improvement on 10 years ago.

But while a third reported having a negative experience, the survey also found they were unlikely to make a complaint.

The Transport Agency says taxi companies are required to keep a complaints register.
