The official Labour Weekend holiday period has begun.
There is expected to be heavy traffic congestion out of the country's major cities as people take a break for the long weekend.
Four people were killed and 28 seriously injured during the holiday last year.
The official holiday period starts at 4am on Friday and ends at 6am on Tuesday.
