Plea for more funding for school leavers with disabilities

A disability action group says more funding must be made available to help school leavers with disabilities make the transition into the community.

CCS Disability Action says in the past year, they've seen an increase of more than 60% in the number of young people who need their help in making the step from school into the workplace.

Currently, 1% of the total school population qualifies for the Government's resourcing scheme which supports students making the transition.

The group says in the last 12 months, they've helped over 90 students make the transition through money that has come from public donations.

But CCS Disability Action says many students with complex needs are still missing out and the Government needs to urgently review its youth disability services.
