Spending on electronic cards jumped in June, with people splurging more on wining and dining.
Statistics New Zealand says spending with eftpos and credit cards rose a seasonally adjusted 0.3% compared with May.
Core retail spending, which strips out fuel and vehicle-related purchases, rose 0.9%.
Hospitality spending, covering accomodation, restaurants and bars, was up 3.1%.
Spending on fuel fell 4%, mirroring decreases in the price of petrol during the month.
The unadjusted value of transactions was up 5.3% from June last year.
