Infant formula firm takes on global players

A Canterbury-based company wants to challenge the dominance of global infant formula brands on New Zealand supermarket shelves.

Carrickmore Nutrition is launching a line of formula which it will also export to China.

The company says it is already contracted to supply Foodstuffs' South Island supermarkets, and it wants to expand its distribution to the rest of New Zealand.

Managing director Chris Claridge says international brands account for the majority of the domestic market at the moment.

He says the formula is made using milk supplied by Fonterra, and is packaged in Auckland.
