Wellington police say people should not be worried about using the recreational tracks on Mt Victoria in the central city following the discovery of a woman's body there.

Sofia Helen Athanassiou, 39, of Newtown, was found by a group of joggers on Monday morning on a track near Alexandra Park, above Wellington East Girls' College.

Detective Senior Sergeant Donna Howard says officers have now carried out all their investigations on the track though they don't yet know what caused Ms Athanassiou's death.

A post mortem was inconclusive and police are waiting for further test results, which could take up to six weeks.

Police say they can understand people's concerns given the circumstances but they should not be worried about using the area.

"We've carried out an extensive scene examination and we're very pleased at the amount of people that have come forward," Detective Senior Sergeant Donna Howard says.

"There is no reason why people can't resume their normal activities."
