A lawyer for victims of a fake airline ticket scam says slow progress by police is giving the culprits time to destroy evidence and get away with $40,000.
An estimated 168 Tongan people paid $250 for cheap flight to a school reunion but never got tickets.
Most of them live in south Auckland, but Counties Manukau police have not yet begun an investigation because they're waiting for the police in Hamilton to send the files on nearly 50 cases there.
It's more than three weeks since the scam was revealed.
Lawyer Nalesoni Tupou says the police still haven't spoken to any of the three women identified as having sold the tickets.
