Police in Bay of Plenty say a man has been arrested after a rifle was pointed at a police officer in Katikati.
A constable spotted a man near Fairview Road and Robinson Street at about 2.30am on Tuesday and, when she stopped to speak to him, he dropped the bags he was carrying and swung a rifle toward her.
The Armed Offenders Squad was sent to the area and an arrest was made a short time later without incident.
A man, 20, is to appear in Tauranga District Court charged with burglary, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, using a firearm against a law enforcement officer and unlawful taking of a vehicle.
