Solid Energy's Spring Creek coalmine near Greymouth has resumed full operation.
It was partly shut down on Wednesday morning after a miner was hit by falling coal.
Mine safety inspectors say it was fortunate the accident did not prove fatal.
On Friday afternoon the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment lifted the prohibition notice on face development at the mine, which had been issued by inspectors from the High Hazards Unit.
A Canterbury District Health Board spokesperson says the injured mineworker's condition is fairly comfortable.
