Bain legal team gets December date before Privy Council

4:52 pm on 11 November 2008

The legal team for David Bain has been given a date early next month to take its case to the Privy Council in London.

The Privy Council will hear the case on 8 December.

Mr Bain was released on bail in May last year after serving 13 years in prison for the 1994 murders of his parents and three siblings.

His convictions were quashed by the Privy Council, which said there had been a substantial miscarriage of justice.

A retrial has been set down for February.

The head of Mr Bain's legal team, Michael Reed, QC, has previously told Radio New Zealand that the petition to the Privy Council outlines new evidence that was not available at the last hearing.

Mr Reed has also said the Privy Council will be asked to order an acquittal.
