Mana Party protest against pokies operation

1:21 pm on 28 July 2012

The Mana Party has led a protest against a South Auckland fast food shop that is operating pokie machines despite not having a licence.

About a dozen people waved placards outside the Galaxy Takeaways shop in Otara on Saturday morning.

The shop's 18 pokies have been operating without a licence since it was revoked by the Department of Internal Affairs last month.

The shop is allowed to do so until its appeal against the department's ruling is heard by the Gambling Commission.

One of the protesters, John Minto, says the operation needs to be shut down.

Staff at the takeaway shop declined to comment.
