GP's care inadequate says Commissioner

3:36 pm on 1 August 2012

The Health and Disability Commissioner has criticised a GP for inadequate care that left a woman with a permanent disability.

Commissioner Anthony Hill found the GP, who is not named in the report, had not done enough to make sure the patient's case was reviewed by an orthopaedic surgeon.

The GP left a message with the surgeon, but did not leave the patient's contact details.

In his ruling, Mr Hill says the GP should apologise to the 29-year-old woman.

He also says the GP had to be contacted 13 times before the Commission got a response.
