New Zealand's Native Trees by John Dawson and Rob Lucas has received the New Zealand Post Book of the Year award. It also won the illustrated non-fiction category.
The book contains more than 2300 photographs, many of which were taken by Lucas over several visits to some of the country's most inaccessible areas.
It describes and illustrates more than 320 species, subspecies and varieties of native trees.
Judge Paula Green said it's a beautiful book, that will last for generations. It took seven years to complete.
Rangatira by Paula Morris received the fiction award and From Under the Overcoat by Sue Orr received the 2012 people's choice award for a short story collection.
